Studio Alterna
The studio behind this site — a self-hosted hub to host, showcase, and experiment with projects, and a personal business card.
Studio Alterna is an active work in progress — partly this very website, partly a studio and an easy connection point for future projects I can share with people. It is live and evolving at alterna.studio.
The purpose of this site is fourfold: to host my projects, to showcase them, to give me a space where I can experiment and link to everything relevant, and to serve as a personal, unique business card. Through it, I would like to invite both business-oriented and fellow creative people to contact me if they think they have anything of interest to share.
The studio is just me and my partner — together we create all sorts of things, but this website leans a bit more towards the technical side of our work. It is also the name under which I publish my creations, and a nod to the surname of my online alias: Alterna.
The site is available in English and Dutch, and switches based on a few variables — like your location and preferences.
Additional info
Highlights
- A four-in-one hub: host projects, showcase work, experiment in public, and act as a business card.
- Self-hosted on hardware I control, built with a design language carried over from Enigma Eternal.
- Bilingual via i18n — English and Dutch, resolved from browser prefs, your on-site choice, then geo-IP.
- A growing archive — services, tools, and games will land here as time goes on.
The website is built using my own design language, developed for Enigma Eternal, and is in that regard partly an experiment in how well I could animate and translate everything from one environment to another. It is developed on Next.js with i18n, and designed using a custom design kit. It is hosted on my own hardware, and uses Tailwind alongside the custom CSS that every site accumulates over time.
Language support currently covers English and Dutch. The site first looks at your browser language preferences, then at any language you have switched to on the site itself. If those are unset or inconclusive, it falls back to a geo-IP check to decide whether to show Dutch or English.
Looking ahead, this site will grow to host planned services, surface more projects, and — once games become available — serve as their home on the web as well.
